FM World, the magazine of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), has added a new dimension to its latest front cover – braille!
The June 2017 edition focuses on issues of disability access and inclusivity in building and service design. To emphasise that fact, the cover includes a coded message in braille (but you’ll have to read the issue to find out what it says).
FM World’s braille cover is the latest in a series of innovative approaches to cover design that has followed the magazine’s highly successful 2016 redesign project. Covers since then have included one created from a concrete cast, one with a catering theme spelt out in different foodstuffs – and an entirely matt/gloss black cover for an edition focused on the impact of energy failures due to power cuts.
“We’ve created a rod for our own backs,” admitted FM World editor Martin Read.
“There’s now a sense of expectation when FM World arrives, which is great – but it’s going to be ever more challenging coming up with new ways of grabbing readers’ attention. Nevertheless, we’re working on more ideas. I could tell you what they are, but I’m afraid I’d have to kill you.”
FM World is delivered to BIFM’s 13,626 readers every month.
